Some mermaids can’t swim
They flounder
Swept up onto the rocks
With heavy-laden hearts
Drowning in their own inaptitude
I hear their plaintive call
Rescue me
Foghorns accompany their song
Foggy nights I listen
Wishing I could rescue just one
I see her in my dreams
Forlorn
Bedraggled
Waiting for a champion
Salty, the air smells
Just the hint of the dream remains
It is the tears I taste
