Picture In Red Satin

Picture In Red Satin
by kenny merrell

In darkness stands a young lover
His heart is filled with longing for
His one and only true love
He is waiting at her door
The porch light suddenly illuminates
The flowers in his hand
A first impression to the parents await him
Will they understand?
She stands in a dress of red satin
As he enters through the door
The mom and dad are there beside her
Oh how beautiful, so much to adore
Do you respect the trust we give you?
She is our only child
Can’t you tell by the love light shining?
Her happiness is all I desire
The mother produces her camera
The daughter so embarrassed and shy
The father his chest expanded
Is there a tear springing from his eye?
A flashbulb freezes time forever
A scene looked at time and time again
The picture to be for always
Although the paper worn and thin
Locked now within their album
Photo muted with age
Memory serves them better
As they slowly turn the page

The Last Exhalation

The Last Exhalation
by kenny merrell

What will the feeling be, the last exhalation?
Will the soul be within that last breath
Free at last to seek heavens door?
So seldom able to reflect on past events
Is it dormant within the heart
To ponder on the teachings
Is salvation still within the grasp
Or must the soul wander
Till that final day
When all are called to be judged
Upon their merit
The reflection of a mans persona
Is best described by others,
Who will be my witness?
Who will be my champion?
Or will I stand upon my own actions
Slowly I must take in each cleansing breath
Reflecting on his promise
Knowing full well I will never know
Until
The last exhalation
