Bringing in the New Year

Bringing in the New Year
by kenny merrell

Last year
We counted our blessings
One by one
Reflected our actions
"Thy will be done"
Made resolutions
Impossible to keep
Marched ever onward
The spirit was weak
A New Year beginning
The slate wiped clean
We each seek salvation
Resolving again
Live in the moment
Make each second count
No single problem
Impossible to surmount
This year shall we all begin
Down on our knees
Asking Gods direction
In all humbleness, please!
"Oh Lord give us a time
With no pain, no strife
Peace on the earth
No loss of life"
But if you must take us
Give our families the will
To continue onward,
And begin a New Year
